Symposium

JUSTICE
The Role Of Justice in Building a Better World

The  symposium will be held on 18-20 th November 2007.

THE OBJECTIVES AND SCOPE OF SYMPOSIUM

Although throughout history there have been fine examples of social harmony and co-operation, humanity has never succeeded in freeing itself from greed, ambition, and the desire for domination, and their resulting conflict and destruction. In the 20th century the latter exceeded all bounds and gave rise to unprecedented savagery. Then, globalization brought with it changes in both the extent and forms of injustice, blatantly legitimizing and systemizing it. It may said that now humanity falters uncertainly between the excessive consumption of the rich North and its associated illnesses, and the extreme deprivation and resultant illnesses of the poor South. Clearly, measures taken to rectify and prevent these injustices, which afflict all areas of human life from the individual and family to country, globe, and environment, have been inadequate. There is urgent need for effective and permanent solutions on both the theoretical and practical levels. Historically, these have been provided by the religions. Islam, in particular, and the Holy Qur’an offer principles for establishing and preserving justice in every area of human life. Islam’s approach to this question is both comprehensive and practicable. With this in view, the Istanbul Foundation for Science and Culture is organizing an international symposium to discuss these problems and their solutions, and to investigate ways of building A WORLD CONSISTENT WITH HUMAN DIGNITY. The symposium will be attended by scholars and academics from every continent, who, in the light of religion generally and particularly of Islam and the Qur’an and its contemporary commentary, the Risale-i Nur, will discuss THE ROLE OF JUSTICE IN BUILDING A BETTER WORLD. Papers should be within the framework of the topics given below. Any paper that fail to comply with the topics, format, and specified dates will not be accepted for presentation. As the Istanbul Foundation for Science and Culture, we hope to make a modest contribution to the building of a just world and the eradication of injustice.
